shopping - Julep New Years Mystery Box! (finally!)

Hey ladies!

So, after seeing tons and tons of unboxings and reviews, my Julep New Years box finally arrived! I had some trouble with Julep getting my order, actually, which kind of puts me off Julep for now.

I had previously received my "starter" box, a Boho glam box with the colours Sasha and Toni, which I enjoyed for only a penny, it also came with their "Best Pedi Cream Ever." I didn't want to spend $20 on a single subscription box, as I was already subscribed to 2 others, so I cancelled, despite being happy with my starter box.

When I saw that they had their New Years Mystery boxes out, I immediately went for it, as Julep claimed it would contain anywhere from $100-$500 worth of products. I only paid $20, and though the money was withdrawn from my account, the order wouldn't appear on the "My Orders" page on Julep.com.

I waited a couple days, all the while looking up Julep horror stories on how people never received orders, got charged twice, etc. I finally emailed Julep, after noticing the box was sold out and it still didn't appear that one was being sent to me, and received a quick reply about how the mistake was noted and would be fixed for me, and it was. Although at this point I was a little concerned about getting a crappy box, even though I paid the first day it was out. I thought because they were sold out, they might throw together whatever was left over and ship it out. However, it took another 2 weeks after the order remaining in processing to email them again, reminding them my box hadn't even been sent yet.

Overall, they sent it, and I finally received it, about a month later than I should have. I wish they would have done something better for me, after waiting around for emails and my box, such as priority shipping. While they did fix the problem, it really wasn't worth my time, I feel, for what I ended up getting. It just makes me nervous when the company can't get it right, after they've taken the money from me.

Anyways, getting on with the actual box!

So there it is! The colours are a Mystery Glitter (Black glitter with orange glitter),  Harley (Silver), Annie (Blue), Chelsea (Pink Glitter),  and Dakota (Copper Penny). Each colour retails for $14 each, ridiculously overpriced in my opinion, because the bottle size is only 8 ml, basically half of an $8 essie or OPI. The colours themselves are ones I can see myself wearing, though the glitters are completely horrible to work with. Getting those swatches onto those nails was a nightmare, they're just too chunky for my liking. I also don't understand why the New Years mystery glitter would be something so suited for Halloween, I could only wear it in October. I am in love with Annie, Dakota is on my nails right now so I can see if I actually do enjoy it, and Harley is something unique to my collection.

I really can't complain too much about the colours I received for what I paid, and I understand that companies put together these kind of boxes to get rid of overstock sometimes.

What really excited me about the box was the Silican Orange foot soak, actually. It had never really crossed my mind to pick up a foot soak, but the more I think about it, the more I think I'll enjoy using this. It's just a tub of scented salts to scoop into a foot bath, but on the site, it's worth $22 alone.

I also got one of Julep's mascaras, which also retails for around $20. It's a brown colour with a lengthening brush, the kind of small, rubber bristles also found in Covergirl's lengthening mascara. I'm not a big fan of those brushes, but I'm always up for trying new mascara, and the brown can be used on school days.

The packaging is square, like their nail polishes, but feels cheap to me. I should stop nitpicking though, I basically got the product for free.

Also in the box were 3 packets of their Nail Polish Remover Pads and 2 foil packets of their Pedi Creme, the same kind I mentioned earlier. I love this creme so I'm not upset about foil packets, but these don't feel like enough products for one application. I love slathering my feet with creme and then topping it off with socks while I sleep. I probably won't purchase any Nail Polish Pads from them, because I feel like they're a waste. I would much rather control the amount of remover on a cotton puff then throw away half of it on a pad.

Wow, this post was definitely filled with complaints, but really, I am happy with my box. The value is well over $120, as promised, and it might be a nice introduction to the company and their products for others, considering they ship when they're supposed to!
