sydney, shopping - Summer Prep (Skincare)
With me, there's no Spring, only Summer.
The second the sun comes out, I'm convinced that I belong on the beach and my coats are put away until October, which generally isn't a good idea considering Vancouver is super random when it comes to weather.
With the weather looking up out here, I've already started pulling out my summer essentials and scoping the drugstore for everything new that can be put into my summer routine. I'm taking the summer off from school to work (and travel, and go to concerts, and mellow out...) so I'm looking forward to busy days and calm, warm nights. Or crazy, wild nights.
My beauty routine breaks down into 3 categories this summer:
Skincare (including body), makeup, and haircare.
I'll be talking about skincare in this first post, and I'll follow up later with my two other categories of favourites. I might add some other suggestions as well, such as music and my own personal plans for the coming summer.
Skincare
Live Clean Soothing Daily Moisturizer
I know that I'm ditching my night cream this summer, only because I wake up a little oily before I swipe it away with toner in the morning. I've been using this light, plant-based moisturizer lately to prep my skin for the sweaty weather to come, and it gives me just enough moisture without leaving me greasy.
Live Clean Refreshing Facial Toner
My favourite part of my skincare routine is easily my toner. I love the clean feeling I'm left with, it leaves no residue or tingling sensation. It's the perfect pick-me up when your skin feels oily (before you've applied makeup, that is.) I need this in the summer especially, when I wake up a little gross after tossing and turning in the heat.
Simple Makeup Wipes/Equate Makeup wipes/Exact Makeup wipes
I love the feeling of a good makeup wipe. The magic of removing all of my makeup while sitting in bed still amazes me, and will always make me feel like Mulan. (You guys know that part where she takes off her makeup with a swipe of her sleeve? That part.)
I've narrowed down these three to the best of the best. I really only splurge on the Simple wipes when I've got a coupon, because the generic brands from Shoppers, Superstore and Wal Mart are excellent. They are so full of product and are super cheap, and now they even come in travel packs for the plane or the beach. I love keeping them around because after a long night, the last thing I want to do is get my butt up and go to the bathroom to wash my face.
Jergens Natural Glow/Good to Glow wipes/Victoria's Secret self tanner
As possibly the palest person ever, I've exhausted every self tanner on the market. With that being said, the only one that I really need you guys to stay away from is any tanner from Bath and Body Works. The first one I ever tried was Jergens, and I should have just stuck with it because I still think that one is the best. Throughout the summer, I use three products to maintain my tan, wipes, self tanning lotion, and tinted lotion. Jergens should be used every couple of days, because the lotion really makes me dark. I use tinted (not self tanning) lotion from Victoria's secret when I'm going out and need that extra bit of colour, without the process of exfoliation, gloves, and waiting for lotion to dry. Wipes are handy when I don't feel like going through the process, but still need lasting colour. I'm sure any wipe would work well but I found some at Winners called Good to Glow that seem to work for me. My only issue is that wipes can get expensive, and I find that I have to use two per full body application.
Vaseline Body Lotion/Vaseline Spray and Go
If you're an avid self tanner, you know that lotion is really only required on knees, ankles and elbows to ensure that self tanner isn't too obvious in those areas, but on nights I'm not applying self tanner, I like to keep my skin moisturized in other ways. I find that Vaseline lotions are the best for this, because they rub in quickly, aren't heavily scented, and are light enough for everyday use. The Spray and Go formula is even better for summer months, because of how easy and fast it is to use.
St. Ives Fresh Skin Apricot Scrub/Simple Smoothing Facial Scrub/Garnier Microbead Scrub
I know St.Ives is intended for the face, but I love this huge tub for my body. It feels too harsh for my face, but it works wonders on getting rid of dry skin and dead skin all over. I use it before self tanning, and it's such a good value for how long it lasts for me. My face, however, also needs some exfoliation after sweating and being in the sun, so I go for more gentle products. I love Simple's Smoothing Facial Scrub, it's so gentle but it does it's job. Garnier also has a scrub with a brush head that really gets into my skin and cleans well, just a brush of that over my face and a quick rinse and my skin feels brand new.
I know it's only April! I just can't wait. I hope this was helpful, but also let me know what your summer favourites are.
